The Cariboo Regional District invites qualified applicants to apply for the permanent, full time position of a Senior Planner located at the Cariboo Regional District office in Williams Lake. For a detailed job description, please visit our website at www.cariboord.ca.
Reporting directly to the Manager of Development Services, the dynamic and energetic incumbent will be responsible for managing and leading long-range planning projects; the review and the rewrite of Official Community Plans and the development of special planning projects. Other components of this role also include the interpretation and application of bylaws, policies and guidelines, implementation of long range planning initiatives, and data collection and analysis. As the position constantly engages with many stakeholders and community groups, it requires effective public engagement methods and excellent public communication skills.
The successful candidate will possess a university degree in an appropriate discipline, plus a postgraduate degree in Community or Regional Planning or other related area, supplemented by some professional planning experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience within a local government setting is preferred. Applicants must have a valid class 5 driver’s license (or out of province equivalent).
In addition to the above qualifications, the ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and will be energetic, enthusiastic, well organized and able to communicate effectively with the public and a variety of stakeholders. Extensive computer familiarity is required with proficiency in visual presentations, word processing and spreadsheets. Membership or eligibility for membership in the Planning Institute of BC or the Canadian Institute of Planners is required.

This is a BCGEU position. The current rate of pay is $40.51 per hour. A standard probation period will apply.
