CRD Board Highlights - April 13, 2017

Apr 13, 2017

Canada 150 Events Supported

CRD Directors allocated up to $25,000 from the Electoral Area Administration budget to support requests for funding of Canada 150 celebrations with a maximum of $1,500 available per event.

At the Board meeting on April 13, the Electoral Area Directors approved a contribution of $1,500 for the Horsefly District Board of Trade’s Canada 150 celebration in July and $1,500 for the 2017 Quesnel Skyfest Canada 150 event.

The Cariboo Regional District encourages community groups to submit requests for funding if they are hosting Canada 150 events. Help us celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary throughout the Cariboo Region.

Audited Financial Statements

Chartered Accountant, JoAnn Francis from PMT Chartered Accountants/Business Advisors LLP presented the Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Hospital District (CCRHD) and the Cariboo Regional District’s (CRD) 2016 audited financial statements. According to Ms. Francis, the financial position of the corporations remains strong. For inquiries, contact the CRD’s Chief Financial Officer at 250-392-3351 or toll free at 1-800-665-1636.

Funds for Defibrillator in Mahood Falls

The Board allocated up to $2,000 to the Mahood Falls Community Society for the purchase of a portable defibrillator. The Mahood Falls Community is located about 175 kilometres from 100 Mile House and a portable defibrillator will be a vital piece of emergency equipment they can use while waiting for emergency responders to arrive.

Big Lake Earth Day Event

The Regional District approved a total of $250 to the Big Lake Elementary School for their Community Roadside Cleanup. The school annually hosts a Community Roadside Cleanup to support Earth Day and enhance their Jade School standing, which they earned two years ago by conducting more than 250 ‘green’ school initiatives. Earth Day is on Saturday, April 22, 2017.

Upgrades to McLeese Lake Hall

The CRD Board approved up to $9,000 of Community Works Funding to the McLeese Lake Recreation Commission Society for energy efficiency projects. The projects include installation of new doors, door closers and wireless thermostat units as well as electrical upgrades.

In the 2017 budget, the Board allocated $150,000 of Community Works Funding towards energy efficiency and drinking water projects at rural community halls and recreation facilities. The CRD receives Community Works funding through the federal Gas Tax Fund and is responsible to allocate the funds to eligible project applicants in the regional district.

Cariboo Strong Update

The Cariboo Regional District Board of Directors received a written update on the Cariboo Strong program. Read the full update and sign up to receive updates on the Cariboo Strong program at cariboord.ca under Community Economic Development.

Wi-Fi at Highway Rest Areas

The CRD Board will be writing a letter to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure urging them to consider expanding the initiative announced last fall to install free, public Wi-Fi at provincial rest areas. The Board will be lobbying to have free Wi-Fi services at rest areas within the Cariboo.

2017 NCLGA Conference

During the first week of May, CRD Directors will be attending the annual North Central Local Government Association’s Conference and Annual General Meeting.

At the conference, Directors will speak to their three resolutions regarding BC Hydro grants-in-lieu, the Board of Variance and agricultural dams. Follow the CRD’s Facebook page at facebook.com/caribooregion for updates on NCLGA activities.
